Doula Mentorship Program

Our mentorship program guides intern doulas who are ready to attend
birthing women and learn the “hands on” work of labor support. This
is a dynamic, supportive program for doulas in training who have
initiated the certification process with a qualified organization.
We provide experienced guidance while interns offer clients prenatal
consultation, childbirth companionship and postpartum home support.
Our certified doulas are available as resources and teachers to new
doulas as they learn the valuable skills necessary for certification.

This program is designed to offer vital components for building
skills, knowledge, and confidence. Mentorship provides the valuable
support of experienced companionship as intern doulas learn the many
aspects of this important work.

Our intern doulas agree to:

• Attend Childbirth Preparation Classes; including the hospital tour, breastfeeding class and natural childbirth class.
• Provide complete doula services, under our mentor supervision, to eight clients; including prenatal visits, labor and birth support and postpartum home support.
• Work with her mentor to identify other areas where more education, experience and/or training will make her certification complete.

The Birthing Tree Mentorship Program agrees to:

• Ongoing support, education and counsel regarding your training as a doula.
• Referrals of clients who seek reduced rate services; the small fee requested goes to funding the Mentorship program.
• Observation of three initial prenatal visits and three postpartum visits.
• Observation of one client’s birth.
• Support to the intern during a client’s labor; by phone and by visitation.
• Evaluation forms to all clients after services have been provided by an intern.
• Free attendance to all childbirth and parenting classes offered by The Birthing Tree.
• One year membership to The Birthing Tree Cooperative.

Sharon Laurie is the director of the Santa Fe Mentorship Program, bringing to it her years of experience as a certified doula and childbirth educator.  She has a gentle teaching style that builds confidence and connection.  

This is an opportunity for a doula new to the field to have the backing of experience, wisdom, and care as she navigates the exciting, mysterious and challenging world of childbirth.

$350- includes a one year membership with The Birthing Tree.
